Folding Carton Artwork and Dieline Checklist

Check structure, panels, bleed, color references and finishing layers before releasing folding carton artwork for sampling or production.

Printed folding cartons for food, cosmetics and consumer products

Direct answer: A carton file is ready for review only when the graphics and structural dieline describe the same finished box.

Confirm the structural version first

Use the latest approved dieline and identify the finished dimensions, glue area, opening direction and any window. Artwork placed on an obsolete structure can make an otherwise correct file unusable.

Prepare production artwork

  • Add the required bleed and keep critical text away from cut and crease lines.
  • Outline or package fonts and link high-resolution images.
  • Identify CMYK, Pantone or other color references clearly.
  • Place foil, spot UV, embossing and white-ink information on separate named layers.

Check every panel

Review front, back, sides, top, bottom and glue areas in the erected orientation. Barcodes, legal copy and opening instructions should be checked at final size.

Buyer release checklist

  • Approved dieline revision
  • Finished size and material confirmed
  • Graphics and finishing layers aligned
  • Proofing purpose defined
  • Final file owner and approval recorded

Common RFQ mistake

Avoid asking the supplier to assume missing dimensions, materials, quantities or pack definitions. Separate confirmed requirements from questions that need engineering input.
